Green detox smoothie

Serves - 1

Smoothies are delicious, especially in summer when you want to cool down. Try not to have them too often though, especially for breakfast. It can be hard work for your digestive system and slow your system down.

You can experiment with this recipe. It's probably an acquired taste as there isn’t much sweetness to it. Personally I love green smoothies and have been drinking them for a long time to ease my inflammation.

It has more flavour made with a juicer, but less fibre. You can of course nibble on the pulp or add it to other meals.

Ingredients

  • 2 celery stalks

  • 20 g parsley

  • 1 lime (zest and juice)

  • 1/2 avocado

  • 40 g cucumber

  • 40 g frozen spinach

  • 1 T MCT oil

Method

  1. Wash and chop all ingredients.

  2. In a masticating or centrifugal juicer, juice the celery, cucumber, parsley and lime with or without skin on. (zest add a bitterness I like, but the juicer can struggle with it).

  3. Reserve the pulp to use in salads, soups or other dishes, or blend with water and drink for a fibre rich drink.

  4. Add avocado, frozen spinach and MCT oil to blender jug.

  5. Using a stick blender or liquidiser, blend all ingredients till smooth.

  6. If you don’t have a juicer, put all ingredients into a liquidiser with some filtered water and blend till smooth.
